Cammi Granato gets new gig with Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks are officially short one assistant general manager.
On Friday, the club announced that Cammi Granato is taking on a new role with the Canucks as a senior amateur advisor.
“After taking some time to reflect on things, I feel this is the perfect time to transition into a new role with the Canucks,” Granato said in a press release.
“I have had some very thoughtful and meaningful discussions with RJ and my family about my position within the organization. Helping on the amateur side is something I am extremely passionate about, and I am thrilled to continue working with our hockey operations department on that front.”
The Canucks are now looking a little leaner in the front office, with Granato essentially taking a demotion within the organization.
Most NHL teams currently have three assistant general managers in their front office, with some holding the higher title of associate GM. However, there are teams, like the Toronto Maple Leafs, that only have two assistant general managers.
There are also clubs like the Edmonton Oilers, who have five assistant general managers listed on their staff.
Of course, one unique aspect of the Canucks front office is that they have two presidents in Henrik and Daniel Sedin, which does add an extra body (and contract) to the club.
Granato has been with the Canucks since joining as an assistant general manager back in February 2022. Before that, she became the first woman hired by an NHL team in a pro scouting role when she joined the Seattle Kraken in 2019.
The Canucks now have two assistant general managers in the organization. Emilie Castonguay is still with the club. She was hired days before Granato, making her the first female AGM in franchise history.
Vancouver also hired Richard Seeley as an AGM earlier in the offseason. He’s also general manager of the Abbotsford Canucks, taking over the role previously held by Ryan Johnson.
