Burnaby RCMP is investigating an alleged assault on a woman that took place in the city this past Sunday night.

In a release, police said the assault happened around 11 pm, when officers responded to a report of an assault in the 7200-block of Gray Avenue in Burnaby.

The woman told police that she was walking in the area “when an unknown man approached her from behind.” She said the man then covered her mouth and wrapped his other arm around her body.

“The victim ducked down to the ground, screamed and the man ran away,” police said.

The woman suffered what police described as a “minor” injury during the incident, and the man was last seen going westbound on Victory Street before turning into a nearby alleyway.

Officers immediately responded to the area but were unable to locate the suspect. He has been described as a young Caucasian male with a slim build and was wearing a black hoodie and black gloves with white lettering at the time of the incident.

Police are asking anyone with information or who may have been in the area around the time of the incident to call 604-646-9999. Those who wish to leave an anonymous tip can do so by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or by leaving a tip online.
