Burnaby RCMP are searching for a suspect after a woman was allegedly groped while walking in Central Park on Wednesday evening.

Police say the incident happened around 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 20 near the 5900 block of Patterson Avenue.

A man allegedly approached the woman on a trail and touched her chest and vaginal area before fleeing into another part of the park.

Investigators say the victim and suspect are not known to each other.

The woman was not physically injured and reported the assault immediately.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, 35 to 45 years old, about five-foot-six, with a slim build, brown eyes and no facial hair.

He was wearing a white hoodie, black shorts and a multicoloured windbreaker.

Acting Officer in Charge Supt. Sunny Parmar of Burnaby RCMP said investigators are working to identify the man and have increased patrols in the park.

“Public safety remains our priority; we have engaged our Community Response and Bike Teams for enhanced patrols in the area,” Parmar said in a release.

Burnaby RCMP are also reminding residents to take precautions when using public spaces. Officers advise people to stay aware of their surroundings, plan routes that avoid isolated areas, and trust their instincts in situations that do not feel safe.

Anyone with information is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2025-29345.
