A pair of Vancouver motorcyclists were hit with hundreds of dollars in fines for stunting and an illegal licence plate trick.
According to the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP), officers were watching the pair of motorcyclists allegedly crossing highway dividers, driving over painted medians, and lane-splitting through traffic without using their signals.
BCHP says the pair of Vancouver motorcyclists was weaving through traffic during a busy period on Aug. 17 at around 3 p.m. on Highway 1 at the Cassiar Connector. They were pulled over in heavy traffic near the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge in North Vancouver.
On top of the dangerous road maneuvers they were trying to pull, BCHP said that the pair of riders was doing something illegal with their licence plates. They had them bent up so they weren’t visible, as you can see in the image below.

The riders tried to bend their licence plate mounts back to vertical and pretend they were that way the whole time,
said BCHP Corporal Michael McLaughlin in a statement. It was not very convincing.
Both riders were driving BMW sport motorcycles, and one of them, an 18-year-old, failed to display his “N” sign. The other rider is 23.
BCHP said both riders were hit with a seven-day impound for stunt driving and several fines each.
The 23-year-old was hit with a $368 fine for driving without due care and attention and a $230 fine for improper display of his licence plate. The 18-year-old was hit with a $196 fine for driving without consideration, $109 for not displaying his “N,” and $230 for improper display of his licence plate.
Both riders were also hit with six points against their licences, which the BCHP says will result in hundreds of dollars in high-risk driver premiums. They will also be subjected to a review of their licence status by the BC Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.
If you make an effort to follow the rules, it’s less stressful for everyone, and you probably won’t get verbal abuse from passing motorists as you watch your motorcycle get towed,
Corporal McLaughlin added.
Not to mention the thousands of dollars you’ll save in tickets and high-risk driver premiums.
