Prolific Burnaby mail thieves clear out 100 mailboxes in minutes (VIDEO)
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a group of “prolific” mail thieves.
The Burnaby RCMP explain that there may be up to five suspects who have committed multiple mail thefts over the past few weeks.
In most cases, the victims are residents of apartment buildings. The suspects gain access to the building, usually in the middle of the night, and steal the contents of the mailboxes.
In some cases, the suspects have managed to clear out over 100 mailboxes in a matter of minutes.
Police explain that thieves often take the information from mail and create a “personal profile” to commit further crimes like identity theft and fraud.
The Burnaby RCMP’s Prolific Offender Suppression Team (POST) has taken control of the investigation. At this time, it’s unknown as to whether all five suspects are working together.
