The man who died following a fight in a Burnaby home on Tuesday evening has been named as 47-year-old Jwada Hedar-Kadhim.

Police are treating Hedar-Kadhim’s death as a homicide, after responding to reports of a fight just before 9 pm in the 6500 block of Telford Avenue.

Officers arrived to find Hedar-Kadhim in medical distress; despite all attempts to revive him, the Burnaby man died at the scene.

While it is still early in the investigation, police believe there was a conflict leading up to the death of Hedar-Kadhim and this was a targeted act of violence.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is working with Burnaby RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, and the BC Coroner’s Service on the case.

Investigators will be remaining in the area while they continue to gather evidence. Police are also looking to speak to anyone who knew Hedar-Kadhim.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448), or [email protected]. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or leave a tip online at solvecrime.ca.
