Michael Bublé got publicly roasted at a BC Lions game back in the day

Michael Bublé is a beloved figure throughout all of Canada, but early on in his career, that wasn’t always the case.

The 49-year-old Burnaby native is one of the most famous Canadian singers on the planet, known for hits such as Feeling Good along with several holiday tunes including It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.

But he wasn’t always famous.

Bublé currently serves as a coach on The Voice, and in a recent episode, shared a story from back in the day where he sang the anthem at a BC Lions game at BC Place. He admitted that he didn’t think it went very well, and the announcer of the game apparently felt the same way.

“I sang [O Canada] at a BC Lions CFL football game,” Bublé explained. “I was in a revue. I used to do Broadway shows and stuff. It was like an Elvis ’50s ish kind of thing. They had done like a doo-wop arrangement of ‘O Canada.’

“I swear to you this is real. I remember my grandpa taped it, this is no joke.

“I don’t think we were great, and the announcer said, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building, and we hope they never invite him back.'”

Bublé doesn’t seem to be angered by the incident, as he was laughing throughout the entire story. It didn’t stop him from singing the national anthem, either, as he was able to do so for the Vancouver Canucks — his favourite NHL team — before they began the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

We may not see another anthem from Bublé, however, as he told the other judges that he will not do so ever again.
