Brother of ex-Vancouver Canucks forward delivered one of the most legendary lineup reads ever

It was a lineup read so good, it rivalled J.T. Miller’s line reveal from back in 2026.

Except Miller couldn’t shotgun a beer for his.

On Friday, the Washington Capitals visited the Chicago Blackhawks on the first leg of their ‘Mentors Trip.’

For most, that included having their father’s tag along, but ex-Vancouver Canucks forward Nic Dowd brought his brother instead.

Not only did Dowd invite his brother, Josh, but the elder sibling got the Capitals jacked up with one of the most legendary lineup reads of all-time.

Josh, who’s 10 years older than his younger brother Nic, ripped off a Shorsey-themed lineup read for the Caps by using variations of the phrase “you’re f****** going.”

“Dowder, are you ready?” Josh said.

“I’m ready,” Nic replied.

“Good, because you’re f****** going,” Josh shouted.

After he completed the lineup read, Josh surprised Capitals players by shotgunning a beer before they stepped onto the ice.

“Yeah, I wasn’t expecting him to pull out a Bud Light,” Connor McMichael said postgame, “but it definitely fired us up.”

His beer-chugging antics seemingly worked, as the Capitals spoiled Connor Bedard’s return to Chicago’s lineup by scoring three first-period goals, en route to a 5-1 win.

Dowd is one of two former Canucks on the Capitals roster, along with Anthony Beauvillier, who scored the opening goal in the win.

The Capitals also have Richmond, B.C., native Justin Sourdif on the roster, and the rookie is having a successful season with nine goals and 19 points.

Sourdif was there for the taking for the Canucks in the 2020 draft before the Florida Panthers drafted him 87th overall. The Canucks took defenceman Joni Jurmo at 82nd overall instead. Florida traded Sourdif to the Caps last offseason for a second and a sixth-round pick.

Speaking of things you wish the Canucks did, wouldn’t it be nice to see this kind of energy in their locker room?

Or perhaps, a speech like this from the head coach?

The Capitals are currently 23-16-6 and hold down the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
