Another major retailer in downtown Vancouver’s Alberni Street luxury retail has shuttered its doors.
Brooks Brothers at 1026 Alberni Street recently closed, creating another major retail space vacancy in the area. The US-based luxury fashion retailer first opened at the 12,000 sq ft location about 15 years ago.
The only remaining Brooks Brothers locations in Metro Vancouver are a factory outlet store at Tsawwassen Mills and a small store inside Vancouver International Airport’s terminal building.

Brooks Brothers experienced significant financial challenges due to the pandemic, forcing it to file for bankruptcy protection and change ownership in 2020.
Daily Hive Urbanized reached out to Brooks Brothers Canada for comment.
This follows the closure of the Michaels arts and crafts store in an adjacent retail unit in the same building in early 2021. The former Michaels store, spanning about 16,000 sq ft across two levels, has been vacant ever since, with Warrington PCI Management listing the space for potential office uses.
With both units now vacant, there is now roughly 28,000 sq ft of available commercial space in the building.
Just down the block in the laneway near Thurlow Street, the Off-White Vancouver store also recently closed. It opened in 2018 as a model example of a retail unit activating a laneway.
But ahead of Christmas 2023, also down the street, luxury retailer Balenciaga opened its second Canadian standalone store.
