Brock Boeser's four-goal game won this Canucks fan $100K

The Million Dollar Score and Win is a longtime staple of Vancouver Canucks games.

If someone scores five goals in a game, someone will win $1 million, fans are told.

Just one problem.

In 4,114 Canucks regular season games played since 1970, no player has ever scored five goals in a single game. It’s a rare feat league-wide too, as only six players have scored five goals in one game since 1996. Wayne Gretzky, in his remarkable career, only did it four times.

The record for goals in a game by a Canucks player is four, which Brock Boeser equalled on opening night.

But while nobody won a million dollars, there is a pretty nice prize if someone scores four times.

That prize went to Frances McAuley of Burnaby, who won $100,000 through the Save-On-Foods Million Dollar Score and Win contest. Burnaby’s Frances McAuley, who is a “frequent shopper” at the Willingdon location of Save-On-Foods, recently posed for photos with a giant cheque, accompanied by Canucks mascot Fin and Canucks legend Kirk McLean.

It should also be noted that Boeser scored his hat-trick goal with 12:30 left in the second period. That means that for more than half the game, McAuley was one shot away from winning a million dollars.

But hey, she’s lucky to get $100,000.

Boeser became the first Canucks player to score four goals in a single game since Daniel Sedin in 2004. Markus Naslund achieved the feat twice during his career and is the only other Canuck to score four goals in a game this millennium, doing so in 2002 and 2003.
