Border waits are up to two hours long as Canadians flock to Seattle
Folks heading to Washington State from BC got an early start this morning, but current border wait times are still very long ahead of an exciting weekend in Seattle.
Thanks to the dual draws of back-to-back Taylor Swift concerts and a Toronto Blue Jays game, Canadians are invading Seattle this weekend to see their favourite star and cheer on their favourite team. And they’re already clogging up border crossings, here’s a look at Peace Arch this morning:
Even those who took Friday off to beat the traffic found themselves stuck in a long border wait. According to US Customs and Border Protection, there’s a 90-minute wait time at the Blaine Peace Arch crossing. Canadian sources say it’s more like two hours.
Current traffic volumes at the crossing are practically double the average trend right now.
The long wait times and high traffic volumes at border crossings this weekend have even Nexus card holders worried.
Wish me luck today. I need to cross the Border. Taylor Swift and the Blue Jay's are in Seattle this weekend. The busiest Border Crossing in Canada is about to be even busier. My worry is how long I'll have to wait just to even get to the Nexus Lane. @CityNewsTraffic pic.twitter.com/T7oQVupXb0

One of the longest line ups I have ever seen to cross into the United States. Thanks to Taylor Swift and the Toronto Blue Jay's in Seattle this weekend, wait times at Peace Arch and Pac Hwy are now close to 5 hours… @CityNewsTraffic pic.twitter.com/zHJhCOzWEE
