Boeser reflects on time in Vancouver before possible last game with Canucks

Tonight could be the last time we see Brock Boeser in a Vancouver Canucks jersey.

The fan-favourite is a pending unrestricted free agent and his name has been heavily involved in trade rumours. With the deadline approaching on Friday, Boeser is a top candidate to get shipped out.

Tonight’s game is the last one before the deadline, meaning if a trade does go down, it’ll be the final time Boeser wears the Canucks sweater.

“I’m trying not to really think about that,” he told reporters today. “I honestly have no idea what’s going to happen. I’m really just trying to focus on the game tonight. Obviously, it might be a little difficult, but I’m going to do the best I can to really dial it in.”

“Anytime you have uncertainty, it’s scary, and the unknown is scary. Obviously, a little bit of stress is involved in that. It’s not a great situation, but like I said, I’m just trying to focus on tonight. I’m still here, I’m still on the Canucks, and that’s my main worry right now.”

The Canucks and Boeser have reportedly not been able to agree on the term of a new contract. The sniper is looking for seven or eight years, while the Canucks reportedly offered just five.

As of right now, it looks like neither side will budge before Friday’s deadline. This means the Canucks can either trade him or keep him past the deadline and hope they come to an agreement later, or else they risk letting him walk in free agency for nothing.

Boeser has been a bright spot in Vancouver since being drafted. He offered some of the first signs of hope during a dark period for the franchise and ranks ninth all-time in Canucks goals.

Besides all of his achievements on the ice, he’s also made a ton of supporters away from it as he’s embraced the city and the fanbase.

“I can’t say enough about the fanbase and the city. Everyone is so kind to me out and about, everyone’s always had my back and supported me, and it’s something I really appreciate about this place.”

“I’ve loved it from the start since the first day [Troy Stetcher] brought me to the good sushi here, the amazing food, I got some dogs, the outdoors. The ups and downs I’ve gone through in my life, how supportive everyone has been, including [the media]. This place is awesome, and I’m still here, so I’m not going to talk like I’m leaving, but I obviously love this place.”

Canucks fans have loved Boeser back just as much as he loves playing here. If he leaves, it’ll mark the end of an era, but for now, he has at least one more game to play for the club that drafted him.
