Body discovered at site of East Vancouver house fire

The body of a man in his 50s was discovered at the scene of a East Vancouver house fire yesterday.

The fire at the single-family residence on the 4700 block of Reid Street began at approximately 3:30 p.m. While the building was burning, fire crews were not able to enter the structure due to a partial roof collapse. However, the situation was contained and extinguished relatively quickly – within only an hour.

Upon entering the building, officials found a body in the home. It is not known whether the man lived in the residence, but the incident has been deemed suspicious. The BC Coroners’ Service and fire officials are investigating the cause of the circumstances, including the possibility of arson.

Renters lived on the main floor of the home while the landlord’s family resided downstairs in the basement.
