BMX rider dies after 'tragic accident' near Vancouver Convention Centre

A BMX rider died in what officials say was a “tragic accident” on Sunday evening, near the Vancouver Convention Centre.

In a statement to Daily Hive, officials with the Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre said the incident occurred when an individual who “appeared to be attempting a bike stunt, jumped off the third level of the seawall adjacent to the Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre into the water.”

A spokesperson with the BC Coroners Service (BCCS) confirmed with Daily Hive as well that a man in his 30s had passed away in the area during the evening hours on Sunday, and that a fact-finding investigation “will look to determine how, where, when and by what means he came to his death.”

The BCCS said they have no further information to share at this time.

The Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre said it is cooperating with police as the investigation continues.
