Kitsilano Beach reopens to swimmers after E.coli-related closure on Monday

After Kitsilano Beach was closed on Monday due to high bacteria levels, the Vancouver Park Board said on Tuesday the beach is open to swimmers once again.

The beach had been closed on Monday, after water from the beach over the threshold for safe and acceptable bacteria levels.

One sample taken at Kitsilano Beach had 1,723 E.coli/100 ml.

The Canadian Recreational Water Quality Guidelines recommend a level of less than 200 E.coli bacteria per 100 mL of water for swimming.

More information on bacteria levels, as well as up-to-date information on the status of Vancouver’s beaches, can be found on Vancouver Coastal Health’s website.
