BMW driver with 'N' licence clocked at nearly 3x the speed limit in Vancouver school zone

The driver of a BMW had their ride impounded on Monday after excessively speeding in a school zone in Vancouver.

In tweet, Insp. Andersen said the driver was travelling 142 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, next to a park and elementary school.

“The officers likely prevented the need to investigate a deadly crash caused by his foolish speed,” he added.

While 50 km/h is the typical speed limit within Vancouver city limits, school zone speed limits are 30 km/h between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday, unless otherwise posted.

Fines for drivers caught speeding in school zones range between $196 and $253, according to ICBC.
