Toronto Blue Jays now lead MLB in this important stat

The Toronto Blue Jays are cruising in first place with the trade deadline quickly approaching.

In a surprise twist this season, it’s the Blue Jays who are looking the most playoff-ready in the AL East. As of Sunday morning, they have a three-game lead on the New York Yankees and are among the top teams in the entire American League with the trade deadline just over a week away.

Not only that, they are also all alone at the top of the MLB with the best home record in the entire league. After Sunday’s 8-6 win over the San Francisco Giants, Toronto now has a record of 35-16 at Rogers Centre.

That’s more home wins than anybody else in the MLB, with the Houston Astros, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, and LA Dodgers all sitting at 33.

Much of that has to do with the team going on an absolute tear as of late. Since the beginning of June, the Blue Jays have a record of 28-13. That is the second-best in that stretch behind only the Brewers. The Boston Red Sox have been hot on their heels since then as well, with a record of 25-15 in that span, but remain 5.5 games back of the Jays.

The Yankees sliding to one of the worst records in the league in that span has also helped, as the Bronx bombers have posted a dismal 19-22 record since June 1.

That has catapulted Toronto to the top of the AL East standings, into first place, a spot they will hope to maintain for the remainder of the season.

If they can hold on, it would be the first time the Blue Jays have won their division since 2015, when they advanced to the ALCS and lost to the eventual World Series Champion Kansas City Royals in six games.

There is still plenty of baseball left to play until the season ends, however. The Blue Jays should be proud that they sit atop the league in home wins, but they shouldn’t grow complacent.

The job is far from finished.
