One week ago, Sportsnet rescued the Toronto Blue Jays from being stranded on Apple TV island.
The reward? Fans were treated to one of the worst losses in franchise history.
Sportsnet was not able to get the Blue Jays back on easily accessible television for the second week in a row. Toronto’s 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays was only available for viewing on Apple TV.
This isn’t new for Blue Jays viewers. Apple TV has had an agreement with the MLB to broadcast “Friday Night Baseball” since 2022.
However, it’s hard to blame fans for being frustrated when they may have missed a game with playoff-seeding implications.
Putting the Blue Jays game on Apple TV instead of one of 10 sports channels is about the dumbest thing ever in a race to win the division. pic.twitter.com/TL18dXdKsO

Most of the fans’ frustrations seemed to stem from the fact that the game was behind a paywall. Even though there’s an option for a free trial, it’s still a hassle that fans don’t have to deal with on regular cable or through Sportsnet streaming.
Some Jays fans who did watch the game on Apple TV weren’t too impressed.
These guys yapped thru the 7th inning about nothing. ! Fluharty is dealing , just call the game.

Not only were some fans not loving the broadcast, but others called it outright biased.
Apple+'s coverage of the @BlueJays game is such sub par coverage then @Sportsnet coverage, a big game for the Jays and the coverage is completely biased towards the Rays. Disappointing, lets allow Canadian companies to cover Canadian teams @MLB #bluejays #baseball #mlb

However, not all Jays fans were ripping the Apple TV broadcast.
Unpopular opinion, but I enjoy the @AppleTV broadcast @BlueJays
No commercials, live feed in between innings, great camera work

No commercials is a pretty good deal, especially if you’re one of those Blue Jays fans enjoying a free trial.
But that’s not all that some Jays fans loved.
Unpopular opinion. I love the Apple TV plus bluejays games.
Different camera angles. Different stats shown on the screen. No commercials, shows the stadium and crowd with sound of them singing etc instead. Un biased commentators. #bluejays

A few mentioned how the commentators did a solid job of calling an unbiased game. Others took it a step further, complimenting the lack of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hype on the broadcast.
The best part about #BlueJays on apple tv is lack of constant commentary about how Vladdy is showing signs of turning it around

For fans who have been frustrated with Jays games behind the Apple TV paywall, good news appears to be on the horizon. A report last month suggested that MLB will give up Friday Night Baseball to NBC, although it’s not yet clear if the change will take place next season or not.
For those who did watch the Jays on Apple TV this season, do you believe the broadcast was good, or not?
