Dr. Bonnie Henry reminds Black Friday shoppers to wear a mask

Dr. Bonnie Henry asked British Columbians doing Black Friday and holiday shopping this weekend to remember to follow COVID-19 safety plans to protect themselves and retail staff.

She’s been disappointed to hear stories of retail staff and shop clerks who have faced undue aggression from customers who refuse to follow her mandatory mask public health order.

“If you are opposed to wearing a mask then I ask you to shop online,” she said. “Stay home, and not put other people at risk.”

She reminded shoppers to wear a mask, maintain their distance, and wash their hands often while trying to find gifts.

“This is a provincial order that everyone must follow. Just as we do things like wearing seat belts, helmets, and following the speed limits.”

She added British Columbians should consider shopping local this holiday season to help out small businesses who are struggling during the pandemic.
