'Heartbreaking': Bill Burr comments on Hastings Street, praises historic Vancouver diner

Bill Burr shared some insights about Vancouver and popular spots in the city on a recent podcast.

As Dished Vancouver reported on earlier this month, Bill Burr was in town, and on a recent episode of Monday Morning Podcast, he spoke a lot about the city, its issues, and some things he liked.

Dished reported that Burr was spotted at Nemesis Coffee in Gastown with his wife earlier this month.

He visited many more Vancouver spots and also had an experience in the Downtown Eastside. Burr commented on the fact that he was in the Hastings area of the Downtown Eastside, witnessing people dealing with substance use issues.

“That was f***ing heartbreaking to see all of that stuff. I just kept thinking that’s somebody’s daughter, that’s somebody’s son,” he said.

“A lot of people in pain,” he added.

Burr explored a lot of Vancouver, including Little Italy. He also mentioned hitting up another coffee spot, Oidé Coffee in Fairview.

“What a beautiful goddamned city,” Burr reflected, as he continuously referred back to the drug epidemic in the city, saying he hadn’t even seen anything like it in Downtown LA.

His lasting impression seemed to be overall positive as he said the coffee was great and the “food was f***ing fantastic.”

Another spot Burr talked about was the Templeton Diner on Granville Street. The historic diner, featuring a ’50s aesthetic with a jukebox to boot, has been a popular brunch and breakfast spot for decades.

He got the name wrong in his podcast, though, calling it Templeman Diner. He liked it so much that he visited more than once.

“I went there a couple of times, and the second time I went there, I was across the street, because I wasn’t quite sure where I was. And I looked, and I didn’t realize that it’s right next to an adult video store,” he said, adding the discovery was “pretty amazing.”

Burr and many popular fellow comedians are currently subject to much scrutiny from followers and fans due to an appearance they made in Saudi Arabia at the Riyadh Comedy Festival.

You can listen to the full episode below, and his Vancouver spiel starts at around six minutes in.
