The Toronto Blue Jays could have their best contact hitter back in the lineup by the time the ALCS gets underway on Sunday.
The Jays were able to punch their ticket to the ALCS for the first time since 2016, eliminating the New York Yankees in Game 4 of the ALDS by a 5-2 final. It was a fantastic series for the Blue Jays, made all the more impressive given the fact that they were able to do it without Bo Bichette.
Bichette hasn’t played since suffering a PCL sprain in his left knee in early September. The Blue Jays have been very vague on any potential return for the 27-year-old, though he was spotted doing some light running drills Wednesday morning. After Wednesday’s win, the two-time All-Star suggested he may not be too far away from a return to the lineup.
“I’ve made a lot of progress recently, so I’m optimistic about my chances,” Bichette told reporters. “I still have some hurdles to clear, but I’m optimistic… I’ve gotta run a little bit faster, but I’m feeling better every day.”

Meanwhile, prior to Game 4 getting underway, John Schneider told reporters that Bichette faced Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer during a sim game earlier in the week.
“He’s probably turned the corner a little bit in terms of making some steady progress,” Schneider said. “It wasn’t just kind of hitting in the cage, it was facing some live pitching and knowing that he was going to be running [Wednesday] for the first time.
“So I think he’s making some strides, and we’ll continue to take it a day at a time.”

The Blue Jays are off until Sunday, giving Bichette a few extra days to try and work his way back to game-ready action.
For now, Bichette and the Blue Jays are waiting to see who they will play in the best-of-seven ALCS. It will be either the Detroit Tigers or Seattle Mariners, who have a fifth and deciding game of their own ALDS series this Friday.
