Statistics Canada has released another batch of monthly cannabis sales figures, and B.C. has finally posted better numbers than an unlikely province it has been trailing for years.
We reported on Canadian retail cannabis sales last month, and it appears as though the numbers have been revised, showing that, in two out of the past three months of figures, B.C. actually outsold Alberta twice.
In December 2025, B.C. saw $87 million in Cannabis sales, compared to Alberta’s $85 million. And in February 2026, the latest month Statistics Canada has posted sales figures for, B.C. saw $82 million in weed sales, compared to Alberta’s $73 million. That’s good for second-best in Canada.
Dating back to January 2025, until these latest numbers, B.C. has never once outsold Alberta.
B.C. also saw a major slump in October due to the BCGEU labour strike, which impacted the Liquor Distribution Branch, and which also handles cannabis distribution. That October, B.C. only saw $31 million in Cannabis sales, compared to Alberta’s $86 million.
While B.C. posted higher sales than Alberta, it is nowhere close to the Canadian king of Cannabis sales, Ontario.
In February 2026, Ontario saw sales of $159 million.

Many were surprised by our first report on Canadian cannabis sales, considering how well-known B.C. is for its “bud.”
“Didn’t think it was possible! We are like the weed capital of the world! lol,” someone said.
Readers also offered theories as to why B.C. sales trailed Alberta.
“We in BC grow our own. That’s the reason,” another comment said.
Others suggested that people were still obtaining their greenery from non-legal sources.
“Could it be our black market that’s still going fairly strong. Back in the day it all went to Alberta they had money and no growers meanwhile here it was like trying to sell water to a whale everyone grows.”
