According to the BC Highway Patrol, a 44-year-old Abbotsford man allegedly rolled his dump truck into a ditch while impaired.
The driver is not only facing fines, but is also facing a licence suspension and the loss of his job.

BC Highway Patrol officers were called to the scene of a crash in the afternoon of Sept. 4, after witnesses called to report that a single-vehicle dump truck collision had occurred near Deroche, which is around a half-hour drive away from Abbotsford.
According to some of his penalties, the B.C. truck driver had open liquor in his vehicle.
“When police arrived, the dump truck driver was given a breath demand and the reading on the Approved Screening Device was ‘fail,'” BC Highway Patrol said in a media release.
While the dump truck driver didn’t suffer from any physical ailments, he had other “injuries.”
He was issued the following penalties:
- A 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition from driving
- The seizure of his driver’s licence
- A ticket for driving without due care
- A ticket for open liquor in a motor vehicle
- A 30-day impound of the dump truck, which the driver’s employer owns
According to the BC Highway Patrol, as officers were investigating the crash, the driver’s supervisor arrived on the scene and terminated the driver’s employment immediately.
The majority of professional truck drivers never deal with BC Highway Patrol. They’re too busy working safely and following the rules,
said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol in a statement. But with any big rig, the stakes are too high to be unsafe. We have no tolerance for drivers who are impaired.
