Summer is in full swing, and one of the world’s richest people is enjoying B.C.’s beautiful waters by bringing their superyacht out to play.
A massive vessel belonging to Facebook founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg was spotted sailing off the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday, June 24.
Powell River resident Clayton Thom snapped a photo of the $300-million superyacht as it passed by Beach Gardens Resort & Marina in Powell River, sharing that it was a unique sight.

“My reaction to it was shock, wondering how one can flash such wealth by having a support yacht cruise ahead with a chopper on it,” Thom told Daily Hive.
“I heard it through word of mouth here in town, and Google helped confirm that. “I do think there is stunning craftsmanship with this vessel.
Zuckerberg’s vessel is named Launchpad and was constructed in 2024 by Netherlands-based luxury shipmaker Feadship. It is normally accompanied by a support watercraft with the name Wingman.
The 119-metre vessel is one of the most expensive private yachts in the world, with a helipad, onboard gym and spa, and more amenities.
It was reported to have also been anchored near South Pender Island after being docked for a few days in Seattle.
According to The Yacht Company, Motor Yacht Launchpad “represents the future of fully custom superyacht design.”

“With a steel hull, aluminium superstructure, and naval architecture by De Voogt, ultra high-tech Launchpad balances power and poise across her 5,528 GT volume,” added The Yacht Company. “Powered by four MTU engines, Launchpad cruises comfortably at 16 knots and reaches a top speed of 24.”
Zuckerberg, who is currently seventh on Forbes’ World’s Real-Time Billionaires list, is also the subject of an upcoming film that was shot in Vancouver.

The World, which bills itself as the world’s largest private residential yacht, was also recently docked at Ogden Point in Victoria.

GVHA
The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) posted on social media that the massive cruise ship operates as a floating apartment complex.
The World launched in 2002 and has 165 custom-designed homes onboard, ranging in size from studios to multi-bedroom apartments.
Owners can even hire interior designers to decorate and remodel the apartments on the mega yacht to suit their personal needs.
