A Fraser Valley driver chose one of the worst spots to pass someone on the highway, leading to police seizing his vehicle.
The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) shared a post on social media about a recent incident that took place on Highway 1 in a busy construction zone.
“Speed enforcement remains a priority for AbbyPD frontline officers, particularly in construction zones where workers are present and at increased risk,” said the department in its online post.
“Last Tuesday, an AbbyPD patrol officer just before 12 noon was conducting patrols eastbound on Highway 1 near Clearbrook Road when he observed an aggressive driver approaching from behind him.”

AbbyPD explained that the driver switched into the slow lane to overtake the police vehicle, which was in the fast lane at the time, and then continued to speed ahead.
The police officer conducted a traffic stop after confirming that the vehicle was travelling 105 km/h in a posted 80 km/h construction zone.
“During the investigation, the driver, a 22-year-old man, was found to be unlicensed. Further checks revealed that a driving prohibition notice was outstanding and had not yet been served to him,” added the department. “As a result, the driver was issued the prohibition notice, prohibiting him from driving in BC. His vehicle was subsequently impounded.
“While the impound may have disrupted a number of deliveries scheduled for that day, the consequences of unsafe driving are far more significant. Construction zone speed limits are in place to protect both workers and motorists, and compliance is not optional.”

Earlier this summer, another Fraser Valley driver lost his vehicle after excessively speeding to the golf course.
Police officers witnessed the driver reaching speeds of 130 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
“When the driver was pulled over, he was apologetic but told the officer he was late for his ‘tee time,'” added police, who shared that the driver ended up phoning for a ride-share vehicle to transport him and his golf clubs.
