BC Place introducing new beer cups that will keep drinks colder

Jul 20 2023, 12:28 am

BC Place is debuting new cups, and they’ll keep your beer colder.

All 24-ounce draft beers will be poured into sustainable aluminum cups at Friday’s Vancouver Whitecaps match, rather than plastic ones fans in the city are used to. BC Place says the cups are considered “infinitely recyclable,” meaning that there is no limit to the number of times it can be recycled.

“The cups also keep beverages ice cold for extended periods,” BC Place announced, which should come in handy for sports fans and concert goers this summer.

For now, 12-ounce draft beers will continue to be sold in plastic cups, though there are plans in the works to change that in the near future.

In addition to the new beer cups, BC Place is introducing 100% compostable popcorn boxes, with a special design for the 40th anniversary of the stadium, which opened on June 19, 1983.

Fans will also be able to catch a rollout of fancy hot dogs at BC Place’s newest concession stand, Dawson’s Deluxe.

The Whitecaps begin the Leagues Cup, a World Cup-style tournament, against Mexico’s Club Leon on Friday night. The next day, the BC Lions will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a game that could draw over 30,000 fans. The upper bowl has been opened for the game due to increased ticket demand.
