BC Place Stadium named among world's 20 best stadiums for concerts and live music

BC Place Stadium has been recognized as one of the world’s leading stadiums for concerts and other major live music events.

Global live-music industry publication IQ Magazine, based in London, U.K., included the Downtown Vancouver venue in its 2026 Stadium Stars list, which profiles 20 stadiums considered standouts for their fan experience and ability to accommodate artists, promoters, and production crews.

BC Place Stadium is also notable for being the only Canadian venue to make this year’s international list.

“Vancouver’s BC Place has emerged as one of North America’s fastest-growing stadium destinations, welcoming a record 1.2 million visitors in 2024,” IQ wrote in its description of the stadium.

The Stadium Stars were initially nominated by IQ readers, with the final selections made by a panel of production managers and promoters working at the highest levels of the global live-music industry.

Rather than ranking the stadiums from first to last, the list recognizes 20 venues that IQ considers to be among the best in their category.

“This recognition reflects the confidence that global event partners and fans have in our venue,” said Rehana Din, the president and CEO of PavCo, the provincial Crown corporation that owns and operates BC Place Stadium and Vancouver Convention Centre, in a statement today reacting to the venue’s accolades in IQ.

“As the largest multi-purpose event venue in our province, BC Place is helping attract and deliver experiences that inspire connection and showcase our province on a global stage, while creating significant value for British Columbians. The events may only last a few hours or days, but their impact can be felt for years through the economic opportunity and community benefit they generate.”

BC Place Stadium appears alongside several of the world’s most renowned sports and entertainment venues, including Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Stade de France in Paris, SoFi Stadium in the Los Angeles area, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and AT&T Stadium in the Dallas area.

Other highlighted venues include Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, National Stadium Singapore, Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong, Accor Stadium in Sydney, Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, and Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City.

The remaining venues entail Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf, Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Nubank Parque in Sao Paulo, Estadio El Campin in Bogota, Goyang Stadium in the Seoul area, and Eden Park in Auckland.

IQ said the venues were selected for delivering memorable experiences for spectators while also making it easier for touring artists and production teams to operate efficiently.

The recognition places BC Place Stadium among an international group of modern stadiums competing to attract the world’s largest concerts, sporting events, and touring productions.

The 20 stadiums have a fixed seating capacity range from about 39,500 seats at Estadio El Campin to 90,000 seats at Wembley Stadium. At 54,500 seats, not including floor seats under the venue’s concert configuration, BC Place Stadium is close to the middle of the group in terms of capacity.

Of course, BC Place Stadium recently hosted seven matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A number of major concerts are scheduled at the venue over the coming months, including the AC/D/C Power Up Tour on Aug. 13, Noah Kahan on Aug. 28, Guns N’ Roses on Aug. 29, and Foo Fighters on Sept. 20. Moreover, Bruno Mars is bringing his The Romantic Tour to BC Place Stadium for five dates on Oct. 14, 16, 17, 20, and 21, 2026.

In December 2024, BC Place Stadium held Taylor Swift’s last three concerts for her global The Eras Tour. Vancouver’s role in hosting the tour’s finale is featured on Disney+ in both a documentary on the tour and the full official film recording of the final concert.

“In just a few years, we have significantly expanded our concert calendar at BC Place, growing from two or three shows annually to 10 this year,” said Chris May, the general manager of BC Place Stadium.

“That growth reflects the strong industry relationships we have built, and growing confidence in our venue as a world-class entertainment destination. As an independent venue operator, we play a unique role in balancing major event opportunities with the commitments of our tenant teams, ensuring the stadium continues to serve the province through a diverse and high-impact event calendar.”

According to PavCo, the multifunctional stadium’s schedule has increased from an average of 50 events per year pre-pandemic to 90 per year post-pandemic, representing an increase of 80 per cent. This has also led to an annual revenue growth from an average of $20 million per year pre-pandemic to $60 million per year post-pandemic.

Over the next two years, it is anticipated BC Place Stadium will host about 400 events. The stadium is also the home field of the MLS’ Vancouver Whitecaps and CFL’s BC Lions. The Whitecaps’ future in the city is highly uncertain, with the club blaming its situation on the financial challenges of its current operating model within the publicly operated stadium.

PavCo has noted that BC Place Stadium and the Vancouver Convention Centre are approaching their practical capacity for the number of events that can be accommodated at both facilities.

“As its business grows, event scheduling has become more challenging as calendar availability at both venues has become more compressed. As both BC Place and the Vancouver Convention Centre approach event capacity, the need has increased to be more selective about what events to hold, with a priority on those that bring the most economic and community benefits for British Columbians,” reads last year’s annual report.
