Oh wheelie? B.C. motorcyclist stunts in front of the wrong person
A B.C. motorcyclist got the surprise of their life after they tried to showboat on Highway 99.
BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) wasn’t pulling any punches in its release about the recent incident.
“There are many reasons why mirrors are required on vehicles in B.C. One reason is that you can see emergency vehicles — including police — when they are right behind you,” BCHP said in a statement.
The incident took place on July 18 on Highway 99 near Furry Creek. A laser reading clocked the motorcyclist travelling 146 km/g in an 80 km/h zone on a blue Suzuki motorcycle.
Thankfully, BCHP also shared a video of the incident.

A BCHP motorcycle officer was within a few metres of the Suzuki, trying to capture the licence plate and to find a safe place to stop.
“However, the blue Suzuki did not have mirrors (as required by law), and the rider did not see police. Instead of riding cautiously, the rider began a stunt wheelie and started weaving through traffic,” BCHP said.
BCHP said that once the motorcyclist knew what was happening, he was cooperative.
“He was simply unaware he was being watched,” said BCHP Sergeant Michael McLaughlin.
“By then it was too late. He’d already accumulated too many offences to keep his motorcycle,” he added.
The B.C. motorcyclist, a 20-year-old from Richmond, had a valid motorcycle learner licence. For his violation, he has to pay an excessive speeding fine of $483, a ticket for stunting valued at $368, a seven-day impound with a tow, both at his expense, and three years of high-risk driver premiums.
“Speeding and dangerous driving are serious concerns on the Sea to Sky. We will do everything we can to keep drivers safe, and that means delivering real legal consequences,” McLaughlin added.

“Every major crash has the potential to shut this highway down. We need people to slow down, drive responsibly, and make the highway safe,” McLaughlin said.
