Married couple linked to B.C. jewelry theft ring arrested and in custody

A months-long, multi-jurisdictional investigation into an organized retail crime group with a married B.C. couple at the centre of it has been dismantled thanks to work by the Vancouver Police Department’s Retail Crime Task Force (VPD-RCTF).
At the centre of the province-wide jewelry theft ring is a Vancouver married couple named Adam and Maria Caldarar.
In December 2025, VPD-RCTF investigators had been alerted about a pattern of “sophisticated distraction thefts” that had targeted jewelry stores around Vancouver. Those investigators found 12 related offences that were committed between August 2025 and February 2026.
Stores in Alberta were also targeted.
“These incidents spanned communities from West Vancouver to Revelstoke, with an additional offence in Calgary. A total of more than $90,000 in jewelry was taken,” VPD shared in a release.
After investigators confirmed the identities of the suspects, they were tracked to Chilliwack, where VPD-RCTF officers arrested the Caldarars on March 4, 2026.
“VPD‑RCTF collaborated with police agencies in Kamloops, Kelowna, Salmon Arm, Hope, and Revelstoke, assisting each jurisdiction in advancing their respective investigations toward charge approval.”
Police said that Adam and Maria Caldarar have pleaded guilty to charges of theft over $5,000 and theft under $5,000 related to offences in Vancouver, West Vancouver, and North Vancouver. The B.C. married couple is currently in custody.
“The Vancouver Police Department extends its appreciation to the jewelry retail community, and all partnering police agencies for their cooperation and support in bringing this province‑wide crime spree to an end,” VPD said.
