The Vancouver Whitecaps aren’t the only team to be booted from BC Place during the FIFA World Cup.

After a crushing loss in the Western Final last November, the BC Lions are gearing up for a Grey Cup run by kicking off training camp this week in Kamloops.

When their season officially begins on June 13, the Lions will play their first five games away from BC Place.

Of those five games, three of them are on the road, while two others will take place at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna.

Once the Lions return to BC Place, they’re gearing up for one heckuva party to celebrate their return.

The Lions announced their theme games during home contests earlier this week, starting with a pool party on Robson Street during their Vancouver return.

On Saturday, July 25, against the Toronto Argonauts, the Lions are throwing a pool party with a giant pool on Robson Street for fans to take a dip before the 4:00 p.m. kickoff. A source told Daily Hive that there will also be a slip and slide.

The pool party will be accompanied by a pre-game patio and free barbecue on the Terry Fox Plaza, along with $5 beers throughout the game.

That will be the first of six theme nights the Lions are hosting for BC Place this season. Here are the others that were recently announced.

FamFest (Saturday, Aug. 8 vs. Hamilton Tiger Cats, 4 p.m.). A family-themed night for Lions fans will feature a pre-game party with Leo the Lion, Disney mascots, and face painting. Kids are also invited to run around on the field after the game.

Watermelon Smash (Sunday, Aug. 23 vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders, 4 p.m.). You can take out your stress on some watermelons pre-game. There is also a mullet station for those who yearn for the business in the front, party in the back look.

Tailgate (Saturday, Sept. 12 vs. Montreal Alouettes, 7 p.m.). There’s an argument to be made that there aren’t enough tailgate parties in Vancouver. The Lions aim to change that here with an evening featuring food trucks, cheap drinks, a car show, and live music.

Friendsgiving (Friday, Oct. 9 vs. Ottawa Redblacks, 7 p.m.). You can get your turkey fix early here, with the Lions hosting happy hour and free turkey in the Terry Fox Plaza before kickoff.

Oktoberfest (Friday, Oct. 23 vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 7 p.m.). The Lions’ regular season concludes with an Oktoberfest celebration, featuring beer steins and an Oktoberfest menu. There will also be a happy hour that extends post-game.
