Former BC Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad once again.

Rourke, who has spent the majority of the season on the Jaguars practice squad, had been promoted to their 53-man roster prior to their game on Thursday night versus the New Orleans Saints. There was concern that Trevor Lawrence wouldn’t be available to play due to a knee injury, though he was able to take the field and help the Jags secure a 31-24 victory.

Two days after his promotion, Rourke was waived by the Jaguars. The move wasn’t a surprising one, given that Lawrence was healthy enough to play and is continuing to be backed up by CJ Beathard. Ultimately, Rourke went unclaimed on waivers and has chosen to stick around with the Jaguars in hopes of another opportunity down the line.

Rourke, 25, signed with the Jaguars this offseason after spending the past two years with the Lions in the CFL. Despite missing half of the 2022 season due to a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot, he was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian. Had he remained healthy, he would be in the running to win the league’s MVP as well.

Thanks to his extremely successful 2022 CFL season, Rourke received interest from several NFL teams last offseason and decided to go with the Jaguars. Whether he will ever get the opportunity so many Canadian fans are hoping for remains to be seen, but choosing to re-sign with the practice squad proves that he is still very eager to carve out an NFL career.
