BC Hydro offering customers extra time to pay winter bills

The cold snap hasn’t just turned our streets into ice rinks, it’s also no doubt had you reaching for your thermostat as you attempt to battle sub zero temperatures that have gripped Vancouver this winter.

In fact BC Hydro has experienced an unprecedented demand for power, on January 3, a 10-year record for peak electricity demand was broken. As a result have implemented special payment plans to help customers who might be counting the cost of the colder temperatures.

“The special 2016/2017 Winter Payment Plan option will give residential customers the choice to spread bill payments over a six month period,” BC Hydro said in a release.

“Given the unusually cold weather, we anticipate that many of our customers will receive higher than normal bills,” said Jessica McDonald, President & CEO of BC Hydro. “We recognize that some customers may need the option to manage the costs over a longer period of time. This program allows them to do this.”

The 2016/2017 Winter Payment Plan provides residential customers with the option to spread out payments of winter bills over a six-month period.

The winter billing period runs from December 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017.
