Parts of B.C. saw high temperature records broken on Monday, but a cooling trend will ease the hot weather this week.
Several B.C. locales saw temperature records break for Aug. 11, including Abbotsford, which saw a new high of 35.8˚C; White Rock, which saw a new record of 32.2˚C; and Victoria, which hit 33.8˚C.
A heat warning was initially issued on Monday, but it was reissued this morning. Thankfully, for those who aren’t fans of the above-average heat, conditions will be cooling very soon.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), temperatures are expected to be “very high” on Tuesday, posing a moderate risk to public health. ECCC attributes the hot weather to a ridge of high pressure that is bringing elevated temperatures to the region’s southern coast.
“Due to strong northwesterly winds over the Strait of Georgia, areas near the water will likely get a reprieve from the heat, but away from the water, daytime temperatures will reach the low 30s,” ECCC’s heat warning advises.
For Metro Vancouver, including Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster, a high of around 33˚C is expected on Tuesday. Overnight temperatures, while cooling a bit, will still be quite warm, hovering around 17˚C.
These conditions will also impact parts of the Fraser Valley.
The cooling trend will arrive on Wednesday, but don’t expect conditions to cool down significantly right away. On Wednesday, instead of temperatures feeling like 29˚C (36˚C inland), they are predicted to feel more like 26˚C (29˚C inland).
Things will get progressively cooler over the week, with Friday being the coolest day of the week with a high of 18˚C. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday will have the coolest overnight lows of 14˚C, but as we’ve seen before, the forecast could change before then.
Along with cooler temperatures, several days of rain have been forecast for Vancouver.
