According to a survey released by Restaurants Canada, 800,000 jobs have been lost in the country’s foodservice sector due to coronavirus.

The national, not-for-profit association has also provided details about what this looks like for BC as a province.

Approximately 121,500 people have lost their jobs in the BC food service sector since March 1, the survey revealed.

These numbers come from information collected by Restaurants Canada between March 25 and March 29, 2020.

“British Columbia’s $15 billion food service industry represents 5% of the province’s GDP and is the province’s third-largest private sector employer. If conditions do not improve, Restaurants Canada estimates that BC food service sales for the second quarter of 2020 will be down more than $3 billion.”
