B.C. Ferries fares to be cut by 50% for off-peak sailings this fall

Pack your bags now because from September 8 to October 31, B.C. Ferries will be offering fare cuts of 50 per cent for select sailings.

During this seven week period, select sailings on major and minors routes servicing Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, and the Southern and Northern Gulf Island will benefit from the price cut.

For example, a walk-on ticket for an adult on the route between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay is normally $16.90, but for the period of the deal, adults will pay $8.45 for a single ride.

The deal will only apply to specific sailing times, so check the full sailing schedule to plan your trip.

The Northern Routes will also have the deal applied to all sailings from October 1 to October 31, so passengers on the routes servicing Inside Passage, Haida Gwaii, the Discovery Gate Connector, and Skidegate/Alliford Bay will have the opportunity to experience savings of up to 50 per cent all month long.

“While we are uncertain how long this current growth in traffic will last, this promotion allows us an opportunity this fall to test variable pricing concepts in order to understand their impact on traffic trends, customer responses, and operations,” said Mike Corrigan, BC Ferries’ President and CEO in a statement.

“This will help us gather information as we prepare pricing strategies for our Fare Flexibility and Digital Experience Initiative in 2017, which will make variable pricing a permanent part of our service delivery model.”
