BC Ferries cancels many Tuesday sailings due to high winds

BC Ferries has cancelled the majority of its sailings between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island for Tuesday, January 5 because heavy winds are forecast to hit the coast.

Environment Canada issued a wind warning Monday afternoon due to an intense front approaching.

“Please be advised that there is an extreme weather system which will result in the following sailing cancellations,” BC Ferries said in a posting.

This is what their sailing schedule looks like:

Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Victoria (Swartz Bay)
7:00 am departing both directions – running as scheduled
9:00 am departing both directions – running as scheduled
11:00 am departing both directions – cancelled
1:00 pm departing both directions – cancelled
3:00 pm departing both directions – cancelled
5:00 pm departing both directions – cancelled

Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) – Nanaimo (Departure Bay)
6:15 am departing both directions – running as scheduled
8:25 am departing both directions – running as scheduled
10:40 am departing both directions – cancelled
1:00 pm departing both directions – cancelled
3:20 pm departing Departure Bay – cancelled
3:45 pm departing Horseshoe Bay – cancelled
5:55 pm departing both directions – cancelled

“The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us. We don’t take the decision to cancel sailings lightly, as we know customers rely on us to get to their destinations,” BC Ferries said. “We will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Customers with reservations who have not checked in to their sailing will be automatically refunded, BC Ferries said.
