BC health officials to provide live COVID-19 update on Monday afternoon

Health officials in British Columbia will provide a live update on COVID-19 on Monday afternoon.

The update will include several reporting periods, including Friday to Saturday, Saturday to Sunday, and Sunday to Monday.

During the last coronavirus update, which took place on Friday afternoon, officials announced 617 new confirmed cases, setting another one-day record high.

At the time of the update, there were 5,579 active cases of the virus in the province and 167 individuals hospitalized, 50 of whom are in intensive care.

Fraser Health continues to see an increasing number of cases, including 42 people who tested positive after a coronavirus outbreak at Platinum Athletic Club in Surrey.

In a message on its Facebook page, Platinum Athletic Club said, “it has come to our attention that some COVID positive patrons had attended the club while awaiting their test results.”

Three schools in the region were also ordered to close for two weeks due to confirmed cases — Cambridge Elementary School in Surrey, Jarvis Elementary School in Delta, and Al-Hidayah School in New Westminster.
