BC health officials to give live COVID-19 update on Friday afternoon

Health officials in British Columbia are scheduled to give a live COVID-19 update on Friday afternoon.

On Thursday, a total of 449 new test-positive coronavirus cases were announced, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the province to 72,305. Since the start of the week, case counts have remained under the 500-mark.

There are 4,317 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are 224 individuals currently hospitalized with the virus, 63 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Currently, 6,869 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

There have been nine COVID-19-related deaths, for a total of 1,278 deaths in British Columbia.

On Thursday, RCMP in Richmond announced that they issued more than $16,000 in fines to partiers at two illegal gatherings last weekend.

Police busted both parties on Friday night and say liquor and business-related charges may also be coming.

A total of 66,603 people who tested positive have now recovered, and to date, 159,887 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC, 15,684 of which are second doses.
