B.C. teacher loses licence after sending gross Instagram DMs to a student
A B.C. teacher lost their teaching certificate after sending a series of inappropriate texts to a student on Instagram about their “semi-nude photos.”
Jeffrey Allan Jennens, a teacher at a school district in B.C., was teaching a vulnerable student that he “periodically texted with,” according to a Consent Resolution Agreement published by the British Columbia Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.
The Commissioner determined that “Jennens’ behavior was a serious breach of his position of power and trust as a teacher” and that he harmed the student’s “emotional safety and well-being.”
Jennens texted with this student about school and about the student’s personal struggles. He also had access to their Instagram stories and photos.
One day, when Jennens and the student were texting, he looked at their Instagram page and saw “semi-nude photos.” In their conversation, he sent her a number of inappropriate texts, quoted below:
“Your shower story turned me on a lot. I was looking at it today.”
“Yes, and I like seeing you in a mini skirt, and I like it when you touch my knee, and I like it when you talk about my lamp.”
“I saw you after coming out of the shower with the censorship sign over your breasts, and I wanted to see them, and there was steam on the mirror, and I wanted there not to be steam.”
He also added that there are “so many things” he usually isn’t allowed to say, so he was “taking this opportunity.”
“Ok, so these are things I’m thinking but not saying.”
“Ok, so we can keep them secret, right?”
Jennens said he was intoxicated when he sent those messages, “but acknowledges that this does not excuse his conduct.”
In May 2023, Jennens signed an Undertaking Not to Practice, meaning he could not teach in any role or position. He resigned from the District on June 30, 2025.
On June 22, 2026, Jennens entered into a consent resolution agreement with the Commissioner, admitting that his conduct “constitutes professional misconduct.” He agreed to the cancellation of his certificate of qualification and a five-year ban on reapplication.
