Two B.C. hospitals rank among world’s best specialized medical centres

Two of British Columbia’s leading hospitals have been recognized on the global stage, ranking among the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for 2026.
The new Newsweek global ranking highlights excellence in specialized care across multiple fields.
The American news magazine and research firm Statista released the annual list, which highlights top medical centres worldwide across 12 specialties.
Categories include the top 300 hospitals for cardiology and oncology, the top 250 for pediatrics, the top 150 for cardiac surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, and orthopedics, and the top 125 for neurosurgery and urology.
The survey, conducted between May and July 2025, draws on recommendations from medical professionals, accreditation data, certifications, and Statista’s PROMs Implementation Survey.
Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) showed its strength across multiple fields. It ranked 48th in endocrinology, 105th in neurology, 140th in gastroenterology and 176th in cardiology.
BC Children’s Hospital stood out by landing eighth in the world for pediatrics.
The hospital, known for its neonatal and pediatric oncology programs, joins Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, which took the top spot, and Calgary’s Alberta Children’s Hospital, which placed 12th.
“These hospitals demonstrate the best specialized care, setting the standard for global excellence,” the report stated.
The rankings also spotlight other Canadian institutions, including Toronto General Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, and the Montreal General Hospital.
