Over the past weekend, Arts Umbrella hosted Splash – their highly-anticipated art auction and gala.
Just having completed its 36th year, the charitable evening raises funds to ensure that children and youth have access to arts education – regardless of any social or economic circumstances.
This year, the sold-out fundraiser hosted 630 members of the community, creating an eclectic night at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver.
Close to 100 pieces of art were bid on, donated by a number of prominent artists, such as Douglas Coupland, Marie Khouri, Jeff Wall, Etienne Zack, Ross Penhall, Angela Grossmann, Evan Lee, Graham Gillmore, Don Yeomans and Andy Dixon, among others.
The result was a record-breaking $560,000 which, in turn, will reach more than 20,000 children over the course of next year.
“Every year, we are astounded by the generosity of our community,” says Paul Larocque, President and CEO of Arts Umbrella. “From the extraordinary artists and gallerists to our sponsors, guests, and volunteers.”
Other highlights of the event included performances by the Arts Umbrella Dance Company and pre-professional theatre troupe, student-created media arts work, and an after-party.
To this date, the gala has raised more than $6.56 million in net proceeds.
