Arc'teryx takes over Le Château’s Burrard Street space in downtown Vancouver

A growing outdoor clothing brand based in North Vancouver is taking over one of downtown Vancouver’s most prominent retail spaces.

Arc’teryx will occupy a 4,060-square-foot space on Burrard Street near Robson Street that was formerly occupied by Le Château until late summer. The space is currently in the process of being retrofited and the new store will open sometime in 2017.

The 1989-founded retailer has approximately two dozen stores around the world, including a brand store in Whistler Village and a flagship store on West 4th Avenue in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood. Other flagship stores are located in Washington D.C., Piccadily Circus in London, Shanghai, and Tokyo.

It is likely that the new Burrard Street location will become the brand’s new Vancouver flagship store.

The now-closed Burrard Street location of Le Château was the Montreal-based chain’s only remaining streetfront store in the city. A handful of stores remain in the region, mainly within shopping centres including Pacific Centre, Metropolis at Metrotown, and Richmond Centre.

A number of retail units along the Robson Street retail strip have been vacant for an extended period, and retail analysts say the street is in a transition process.
