Andrea Reimer 'seriously considering' running for mayor of Vancouver

After announcing last fall that she would not be seeking re-election when voters head to the polls this October, four-term Vancouver City Councillor Andrea Reimer said this week she is now mulling the possibility of running for mayor.

The move comes after Vision Vancouver’s mayoral candidate Ian Campbell announced he was pulling out of the race earlier this week, leaving the party without a candidate.

Reimer told Daily Hive she was giving the idea some “serious” consideration.

“The internal polling is pretty clear that an independent can’t win and lots of people are asking me to reconsider my original decision.”

Reimer said she “owes it to them, and to the city, and agenda I have worked hard for almost two decades now to seriously consider, so that is what I am doing.”

The good news is, she added, “is that there’s not a lot of time to agonize over this.”

The Vancouver municipal election takes place on Saturday, October 20.
