Sounds like we'll see Alphonso Davies play in Canada-Switzerland match

Canada is about to get a big boost to its lineup.
Alphonso Davies appears ready to go for his first action of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Canada head coach Jesse Marsch said as much during Tuesday’s press conference in Vancouver.
Davies won’t start, but Marsch said he expects his best player to play in Canada’s match against Switzerland at BC Place on Wednesday.
“I would like to get him into the match, for sure,” Marsch admitted. “I think that he can have a big impact… physically and football-wise, but also mentally, psychologically to have him back, our captain back, our best player back in the team. I think this is a big factor. It’s so much more than just what he brings on the pitch, it’s what he represents to us.”
Imagine the roar of the crowd when Davies, who made his professional debut at BC Place with the Vancouver Whitecaps 10 years ago, enters the match.
Davies was technically available to play in Canada’s last match against Qatar, but given it was a blowout, it made sense to give the 25-year-old an extra week of rest.
The health status of Davies has been closely monitored since he suffered a hamstring injury with Bayern Munich on May 8.
The stakes are high with Canada’s captain. Rush him back too soon, and you risk losing him for the remainder of the tournament.
“The good news is, he’s looking great. He’s been training, he looks great, he looks fit, he looks ready to go, he’s excited. Let’s see how things go, but yeah, I expect him to play.”
Canada can win Group B with a victory or a draw against the Swiss. Do that, and they’ll remain in Vancouver for the Round of 32.
