Police are continuing to investigate an alleged assault at Pier Park in New Westminster — and say teens may have captured the violence on their phones.

The incident was first reported several days ago and took place on June 14 at 12:15 am.

Officers responded to a report of a fight in the 400-blocks of Front Street at Pier Park. Police say that the fight was between two youth, with a larger group of teenagers present at the time.

According to a media statement, investigators believe that at some point, the fight escalated to where a group of teenagers teamed-up and assaulted one of the males.

It’s also believed that during the fight, several people had their phones out and were recording the incident as it unfolded.

As a result, one male was transported to a local hospital, fortunately, with non-life threatening injuries.

The park remained closed throughout the next day for forensic analysis and the New Westminster Police (NWPD) Major Crime Unit took over the investigation.

“Our detectives are actively investigating all leads,” says Sergeant Jeff Scott of the NWPD. “It is important that anyone with video evidence or with information come forward.”
