Air Canada has announced the addition of a new, seasonal flight.

Starting this December, travellers will have access to non-stop flights between Vancouver (YVR) and Auckland, New Zealand (AKL).

Flights will run four times a week on Air Canada’s Boeing 787-8 and run from December 12, 2019, to the end of March 2020, subject to obtaining government approval.

Introductory fares for the new route will start at $1,387 roundtrip.

“This new, non-stop service between Vancouver and Auckland will further deepen the connections between our countries and strengthen our tourism links,” says the honourable Kelvin Davis, New Zealand’s Minister of Tourism.

Davis explains that over the course of 2018, 71,000 Canadians visited New Zealand, with an average stay of 19 days.

“In addition to tourism links, Canada is one of New Zealand’s closest international partners,” he notes.

Stephen England-Hall, Chief Executive of Tourism New Zealand, also explains that Canadian visitors are a large market for the country, “contributing over $250 million to the New Zealand economy.”

Air Canada also explained that they’ll be beginning talks with Star Alliance partner Air New Zealand, with hopes of forming a joint venture. Both companies have yet to make the necessary filings, competition and regulatory approvals, and other forms of documentation, however.

Two other routes were also announced by the airline. Out east, Canadians now have access to seasonal services between Toronto and Quito, Ecuador, and Montreal and São Paulo, Brazil.
