Marvel and ABC will be bringing the television series production of Agent Carter to Vancouver, according to a report by Comic Book Movie.

The storyline for the new television series takes place a year after the events of the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger and will star Hayley Atwell who is slated to reprise her role as Peggy Carter, the girlfriend of Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America (Chris Evans).

Set in the era of Second World War, the series is being given a very significant production budget – larger than the budgets normally given to regular television shows.

Security for this unannounced series is also reportedly extremely tight for Agent Carter, which has a completed script and is expected to commence filming in Vancouver soon. Under the production title ‘That Old Chestnut,’ it will utilize the region’s film studios, highly experienced crews, local acting talent, and the city for location filming.

Vancouver has recently seen a huge resurgence in locally produced big budget television series – a list that now includes ArrowOnce Upon A TimeAlmost HumanSupernatural, IntelligenceThe Tomorrow PeopleFalling SkiesWayward Pines, and Continuum.

Agent Carter is the latest in the Marvel and ABC partnership beginning with this television season’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a close examination of the Marvel Comics supranational espionage and law-enforcement agency following the ‘Battle of New York’ in The Avengers film.

The Captain America spinoff is expected to perform well in television ratings given the immense fan base Marvel has built for its comic book universe.
