A major Fraser Valley collision involving a farm tractor and a pickup truck has sent one person to the hospital, with authorities asking for the public’s help in figuring out what happened.

According to Abbotsford Police, patrol officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on Vye Road, east of Cole Road, shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19.

The department said that preliminary evidence shows that both vehicles were travelling westbound on Vye Road when the pickup truck crashed into the rear of the tractor.

The collision caused the tractor to veer off the roadway and roll over.

“The driver of the tractor sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital for treatment,” said Abbotsford Police in a release.

“The driver of the pickup truck did not suffer serious injuries, remained at the scene, and is cooperating with investigators.”

Abbotsford Police added that the investigation is ongoing and is being led by its Patrol Section, with help from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).

Alcohol is also believed to not be a factor in the collision.

“Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, observed the truck and tractor prior to the crash, or may have dash camera footage of the incident to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.”

The Fraser Valley collision isn’t the only serious incident on the roads recently.

A fundraiser was launched to help the family of a pedestrian killed in Vancouver in late September to bring his body home.

While authorities have not formally announced the pedestrian’s identity, family and friends have confirmed him to be Jose Francisco Quispe Llancay, a.k.a. “Cisco.”

“With heavy hearts, we are asking for your support following the tragic and unexpected passing of Cisco, RJay’s beloved husband,” said Alexa Vidal on the GoFundMe page, who is organizing on behalf of Roge Jessanee Dela Cruz.

According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the pedestrian fatality occurred at Granville Street and West 52nd Avenue on Monday, Sept. 28, around 1:10 a.m.

“The 27-year-old man was struck crossing the street,” said VPD in a release. “He was treated at the scene and later died in hospital.”
