Police investigating after abandoned baby found in Metro Vancouver

Coquitlam RCMP said Saturday evening they are investigating after getting a report of an infant “who appears to have been abandoned” in the 2300 block of Ranger Lane in Port Coquitlam earlier in the day.

In a release, police said they first received a call regarding the case around 12:50 pm, and “since that time police investigators have made significant progress.”

The infant is currently “receiving medical care in hospital and is doing well,” police said. “It is early in the investigation and police will not be releasing all the details, but there does not appear to be any broader risk to the public.”

They added that the department’s Major Crime Unit has now been called in to lead the investigation.
