Some might call it the “Hobbit House,” while others have said it resembles Snow White’s cottage, but one thing is for sure — this house at 587 West King Edward Avenue in Vancouver is an iconic property for its storybook flair.

There is a new Craigslist rental listing for James Residence, the formal name of the property, which is located just west of SkyTrain’s King Edward Station.

It has approximately 2,900 sq. ft. of total floor area, featuring three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and an open concept main floor plan with 12 ft. vaulted ceilings. It has a gourmet kitchen, and media and gym room with built-in cabinetry. Eclipse doors open up to the patio to the rear.

The house was constructed in the 1930s, but it was relocated, shifted a few feet to accommodate an adjacent townhouse development in 2016, and in the process underwent a complete restoration and renovation that provided the interior with contemporary finishings and equipment.

Two vehicle parking stalls are provided within the townhouse parkade next door.

In 2017, the house was awarded the City of Vancouver Heritage Award of Honour, in recognition of the “retention and thoughtful restoration of this one-of-a-kind residence.”

The developer acquired all of the adjacent properties on the city block west of the house for the three-storey townhouse development, which was amongst the first multi-family development in the area catalyzed by the Canada Line.

Last year, the property was listed for $2.698 million, but anyone who wants to live in the Hobbit House can now call it home for $6,200 per month starting February 20, 2021.
